Cherry's first love, CounterStrike (1.6) This is where Ch3rry was born and introduced into the wonderful world of multiplayer online gaming. She fell in love with the *pew* *pew* *pew* and never looked back. Starting out as a pub crawler (public lobbies) the interest in a more competitive vibe quickly led her to start scrimming, which birthed the OG community Releasing Our Terror (-RoT-) which blossomed and grew massively. This was in the days of Ventrilo and GameTracker, the only Ventrilo bigger than ours at one point was the WOW Ventrilo which was hard to compete with at the time. We had around 250+ people in and out, around 40 people playing at a time at our peak, even had a visit from the one and only Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert (professional CounterStrike player) at one point which was super fun (yes, he was paid but he gave us way more time because we were awesome xD). Unfortunately, a bit of inner turmoil and the release of CS:GO killed our little community.
At this point, we had grown into a League of Legends and Minecraft centered community as well as beginning to delve into others which is when we became a multi-faceted gaming community. We fiddled around with a few different community ideas, we were called Melic Fury Gaming, Gumption Gaming, but nothing stuck and weren't very successful.
We decided to start fresh once again, and with the death of David Bowie and in an attempt to honor him, we decided to call ourselves Black Star Gaming and that has been our name ever since. We have had peaks and times of higher popularity but we have been a small and humble community for the most part. Still a multi-faceted gaming community, we focused on things that could be fun to try to attract members, but still nothing really helped us grow. We had prizes, created a whole prize system, did giveaways, had a Clip of the Week, organized tournaments, etc.
After finding VRChat and falling in love with the open mic community there, making a butt load of friends, and feeling like we wanted to be an even bigger part of the VRC Community inspired us in so many ways. Although it hasn't seen as much success as it had initially, we are still set on creating a community for all kinds of gamers as well as wanting to branch out to make a creative haven for those online who want to build and collaborate with others. We have a lot of fun event ideas and hopes for the future and hope you will be joining us on the journey!
This is a community where we all build and grow together, would love to have you join us, participate, and experience what we hope is quality entertainment in the future.
